Meeting Eric Mabius
Saturday mornings at SIFF I was the intern hanging out in the Guest Suite, helping to greet and check in the guests. Saturday’s are particularly busy, but as usual it comes in waves, and 5 or 6 people all arrive and want/need their guest badges at the exact same time. This is, of course, the opportune time for our computer to freeze, printer to malfunction etc. In the middle of one of our rushes, this familiar, handsome man walks in the door. Another intern from the downstairs office introduced him, but we were busy and didn’t quite catch his name. My supervisor accidentally called him Aaron. (He was not the first, or last, to be called the wrong name that day. We were both short on sleep and caffeine.) We both knew he was extremely familiar, but neither of us could place where we knew him from. He was very kind and patient with us, especially when we had to coordinate a driver to take him to his hotel with another guest who was taking his sweet time getting ready to leave. Soon the wave of people had cleared out, and we had a moment to breathe, and most importantly Google our most recent guest. The second his IMDb page popped up, we looked at each other like “OH!!!” Duh he looked familiar, he was only on every episode of Ugly Betty, as well as Cruel Intentions and Resident Evil, and several episodes of The O.C. Of course that was the night of the centerpiece gala (which was 21+ so I was unable to attend). He hung out with my bosses nearly the entire time. Come Monday, he had a driver scheduled to take him to the airport for his flight, but we received a phone call that he was sick, and definitely not flying anywhere. Our whole office was fighting over who would bring him soup and Gatorade, but much to our dismay, he insisted that was unnecessary.
